A
Different Way of Seeing

What would you do if one day you woke up and you were blind? Or maybe
over time you begin to lose your eye sight until it is totally gone.
This happens to people and animals for a number of different reasons. I
believe animals are much more adaptable to these types of situations
them we are. Yes it may be scary for them as it would be for us but they
continue on using their other senses to move forward with life. They
figure it out one way or another.
I had a dog tell me one time to please explain to his owner that it was
still ok for them to go out on hikes, which he missed terribly, that it
would be just fine. The dog was depressed because they hadn't been out
on the trail since his blindness fully took over. He said he just needed
some guidance on the trail but that he was ready to get back out there.
I told his owner this and the owner reluctantly agreed. I got a excited
call about three weeks later saying the dog was doing great on the trail
and actually people along the trail couldn't believe he was blind!
They now "see" things through sensing. It could be through smell, sounds
or energetic feelings that they are able to live a fulfilling life. Many
things are still possible for them. We limit them when we feel sorry for
them. They just need our help or the help of another animal to become
"sighted" again. Animals don't dwell on not being able to see, that is a
human trait. And they certainly don't want us feeling bad for them.
Help them to continue with a life that is rich with experiences. In
assisting them in new experiences our lives become enriched. It is then
that we are able to "see" the possibilities for our own lives.
Nature
Talks ~ Are You Listening

We do it all the time and don't even realize it. Anyone who has taken a
break from the craziness of everyday life and ventured outside just to
sit in nature's peacefulness is being rejuvenated by nature's voice.
Even if you are in the middle of a big city we seek out the parks, lakes
or tranquil areas to make sense of things again. Nature is healing and
it does it by just being.
Nature has a life force all it's own. As we all know Mother Nature can
be both unyielding in her storms or indescribable in her beauty. When we
step back into that place of nature we start to feel like ourselves
again, we feel natural.
Animals are and always will be connected to nature much more than we
are. They hear and see everything, where we as humans are disconnected.
Listen with not only your ears but with your
heart.
When we reconnect we become more centered and clearer in our thoughts.
The next time the wind kicks up go out and close your eyes and just
listen, or find a stream or body of water and find the life that exists
within it.
With all that is going on in the world today now more than ever it is
important to stay connected to nature and all that it has to offer.
Do you hear the messages of nature? Everything on the planet has a
voice, it is being willing to remain open to everything around us that
we will truly experience life as it was supposed to be, natural and we
will be at one with nature.
Nature calls to us everyday to stop and enjoy, even if it is only for a
moment!

Draft Horse Rescue
Draft Horse Rescue

I had the privilege of working with a few of the horses at the nearby Draft
Horse Rescue facility the other day. I just love the horses that are there and
they each have a very different story to tell. Some were very funny and some
were sad stories but each had a message for the folks there at the rescue. Just
like most rescue organization the folks at the rescue do amazing work and
caretaking on a shoestring budget. I know we each have our causes we are drawn
to, this happens to be one of mine, the Lhasa Apso's being the first. The drafts
are the gentle giants among the horse world. For as enormously huge they are
physically they also have hearts just as big.
When you get a chance please visit their website and if you can donate anything
at all it is always appreciated.

Happy Tails
Get Togethers
Looking for a different way to throw a fun
get together? Invite up to 10 of your closest friends and I will come and do
individual pet readings. People will bring photos of their pets, either pets who
are still with them or ones who have transitioned, and I will provide them with
messages from their loved ones. I have done several Happy Tails Get Togethers
and they are more fun then you can imagine! So plan ahead and email me so we can
get you booked!
Book Recommendation
With summer upon us most of us are looking for
that great book to bring to the beach. Being the animal lover that I am I am
recommending the following book by Marc Bekoff. Marc is a scientist and a
professor at the University of Colorado teaching courses on Ecology and
Evolutionary Biology. Marc is also an great ambassador for Jane Goodall's Roots
& Shoots program. Marc writes about animals and the emotions they have. I had to
laugh out loud a few months ago when "scientists announce animals have
feelings"! Duh! Where have you all been! Anyway, Marc's book called "The
Emotional Lives of Animals". If you get a chance pick the book up and give it a
read. It explores the joys, sorrows and empathy animals have in their realm of
living. I highly recommend it! |
