The Gulf Oil Spill

The oil spill in the Gulf has immediate and long term effects for the entire planet, both good and bad. It seems that with each devastating event that occurs, whether global or local, a silver lining emerges. As a symbol of how far just one act or event can go, the oil spill is a representation of both the physical and spiritual levels on which a single action can take and have a lasting effect.

On the physical level many are affected by the spill, the animals of course but also the surrounding land and the people who utilize both the water and the land. Habitat and food sources provided to millions of people and animals are also affected. Family's jobs are compromised which in turn affects income, with no income, no taxes or spending. People's frustration and anger can build and a sense of hopelessness can emerge setting forth more fear around the planet. Fear can become out of control if we allow it to. It also becomes a reflection of how the issues of the planet are viewed and handled by those in charge, large, out of control and often times overwhelming.

The spill becomes part of our energetic history and will show itself long after most of us have gone. Just as the ancient trees or the layers of Mother Earth tell the story of our history so too shall this event. This disaster, as with most disasters, remains with us and all that it touches on a cellular and spiritual level also. It resonates with us and becomes a part of who we are whether we are directly or indirectly affected. We will all be affected for many years to come due to man's carelessness and lack of thoughtfulness on the things provided to us by Mother Earth.

We see the finger pointing and true lack of compassion by those in charge for all those who have been touched by this devastation. This energy can spread across all of time and space if we let it.

On the spiritual side of things it gives people an opportunity to find their faith and trust that things will turn out for the best and that positive actions can heal many things. Things will change due to this event, more safety measures will be put into place and drilling as a whole may cease.

There are people from all walks of life stepping forward to offer suggestions and solutions to all the problems surrounded by the situation. It is in that moment we see people coming together for each other, the land, and for the animals to help heal all that has been spoiled. There are those who step forward in the energy of love and compassion to help heal all that is damaged. Often times these events have the ability to inspire and uplift us again to realize we create all that we live in. It is during this time we can see the fragileness of the planet and its inhabitants.

In taking care of Mother Earth we take care of ourselves and in taking care of ourselves we acknowledge we are all a part of the wonderful creation of life and how we as individuals can help to change things for the better.
